Abarim

Abarim (meaning regions beyond or passages) is a mountain range east of the Jordan River, situated in the land of Moab opposite Jericho, along the northeastern shore of the Dead Sea. The name broadly describes the highlands on the Transjordanian plateau. Among its summits is Mount Nebo (Pisgah), from whose top Moses surveyed the Promised Land before his death, being denied entry because of the incident at Meribah.

The Israelites camped in the mountains of Abarim during their wilderness journey before descending to the plains of Moab. The prophet Jeremiah also alludes to Abarim in the context of Israel's national mourning.
