Abdon

Person Name

Name meaning: "servant; cloud of judgment"

Abdon (meaning servile or servant) is the name of several persons and one city in the Old Testament. Most prominently, Abdon the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, served as the tenth judge of Israel; he had forty sons and thirty grandsons who rode on seventy donkeys, a sign of considerable status. He judged Israel eight years and was buried at Pirathon in Ephraim. Two other individuals bear this name: a firstborn son of Gibeon of Benjamin, and a court official under King Josiah.
