Abib

Abib (meaning an ear of corn or green fruit) was the name of the first month of the Hebrew religious calendar, corresponding roughly to late March and April. It was designated the head of the ecclesiastical year in connection with the Exodus and the institution of Passover (Exodus 12:2; 13:4). The month took its name from the stage of the barley crop at that season. After the Babylonian captivity, the month was renamed Nisan, the name used in Nehemiah 2:1 and Esther 3:7.
