Abieezer

Person

Abieezer (meaning father of help, i.e., helpful) is the name of two Old Testament figures. (1.) A descendant of Manasseh through Hammoleketh; his family clan, the Abiezrites, was the clan of Gideon (Joshua 17:2; Judges 6:34). Gideon invoked Abiezrite loyalty at the threshing floor of Ophrah, and Abieezer's men supported his campaigns. (2.) One of David's thirty mighty men, from Anathoth of Benjamin (2 Samuel 23:27), who also served as the ninth monthly commander of David's rotating military divisions.
