Abijah

Abijah (meaning the LORD is my father) is one of the more common names in the Old Testament, borne by at least eight individuals. The most historically significant is the king of Judah, son of Rehoboam and grandson of Solomon, who reigned three years and was known for his confrontation with Jeroboam king of Israel—a confrontation in which he claimed the legitimacy of the Davidic covenant even while his own reign was morally ambiguous (1 Kings 15:1–8; 2 Chronicles 13). A second notable Abijah was the second son of Samuel, whose corrupt conduct as a judge at Beer-sheba contributed to the popular demand for a king (1 Samuel 8:2).
