Abinadab

Abinadab (meaning father of nobleness or noble) is the name of four men in the Old Testament. The most prominent is the Levite of Kirjath-jearim in whose house the ark of the covenant rested for twenty years after its return from Philistine territory, until David brought it to Jerusalem. His son Eleazar was consecrated to keep the ark; his other sons Uzzah and Ahio drove the cart on which it was transported (1 Samuel 7:1; 2 Samuel 6:3). The name is also borne by the second son of Jesse passed over when Samuel anointed David (1 Samuel 16:8), a son of Saul killed at Gilboa (1 Samuel 31:2), and a son-in-law of Solomon (1 Kings 4:11).
