Accad

Accad (meaning highland or spark) was one of the four cities that formed Nimrod's original kingdom in the land of Shinar, alongside Babel, Erech, and Calneh (Genesis 10:10). It was also the name of the broader region of northern Babylonia of which the city was the capital. The Accadians, who migrated from the eastern highlands after the flood, attained a high level of civilization and contributed significantly to the literary and cultural heritage of ancient Mesopotamia.
