Accho

Accho (meaning sultry or pressed together) was a harbor town and port on the Phoenician coast, allotted to the tribe of Asher but never actually subdued by them (Judges 1:31). In the Hellenistic period it was renamed Ptolemais after Ptolemy II of Egypt. Paul landed there on his final journey to Jerusalem (Acts 21:7). During the Crusades it was known as Acra and later as St. Jean d'Acre, or simply Acre—a name retained in its modern form as Akko on the Bay of Haifa.
