Achor

Achor (meaning trouble) was a valley near Jericho where Achan and his household were executed following the discovery of his sin after Israel's defeat at Ai (Joshua 7:24–26). The name became proverbial for the source of Israel's corporate calamity. The prophets Isaiah and Hosea later transformed the valley's connotations: Isaiah envisions the Valley of Achor as fertile grazing land in the coming restoration (Isaiah 65:10), while Hosea promises it will become a door of hope in God's renewed covenant with Israel (Hosea 2:15)—a theological reversal of the judgment it originally commemorated.
