Achsah

Achsah (meaning anklet or bursting the veil) was the only daughter of Caleb the son of Jephunneh. Caleb offered her as a prize of marriage to whoever would take the city of Debir (Kirjath-sepher). Othniel son of Kenaz succeeded and received Achsah as his wife. She then persuaded her father to give her springs of water in addition to the land in the Negev—a request Caleb granted by giving her both upper and lower springs (Joshua 15:16–19; Judges 1:9–15). Her initiative is cited as an example of resourceful advocacy.
