Adbeel

Adbeel (meaning vapor of God or cloud of God) was the third of the twelve sons of Ishmael listed in Genesis 25:13 and 1 Chronicles 1:29. He was a grandson of Abraham through Hagar, and his name heads one of the twelve tribes descended from Ishmael that settled in the territory stretching from Havilah to Shur, east of Egypt. These Ishmaelite clans formed an important network of desert peoples in the region of northwestern Arabia and the Sinai peninsula.

Adbeel receives no individual narrative treatment in Scripture beyond his genealogical listing. His significance lies in the fulfillment of God's promise to Abraham concerning Ishmael — that he too would become the father of twelve princes and a great nation — mirroring in structure, though not in covenant standing, the twelve tribes descended from Isaac's son Jacob.
