Adiel

Adiel (meaning ornament of God or the witness of the Lord) is the name of three distinct men in the Old Testament. The first was the father of Azmaveth, who served as treasurer over King David's storehouses (1 Chronicles 27:25). The second was a leader of the tribe of Simeon during the reign of Hezekiah whose clan expanded their territory by dispossessing the Hamites and Meunim (1 Chronicles 4:36). The third was an ancestor of Maasiai, a priest who settled in Jerusalem after the return from exile (1 Chronicles 9:12).

The name Adiel occurs in three separate genealogical and administrative contexts spanning the monarchic and post-exilic periods of Israelite history. None of the three figures receives extended narrative treatment, and they are known only through their listing in the Chronicler's administrative and genealogical records.
