Adin

Adin (meaning adorned or voluptuous) is the name of two men mentioned in the post-exilic records of Ezra and Nehemiah. The first is an ancestor of a family of 454 members who returned from Babylonian exile with Zerubbabel, and whose representative Ebed son of Jonathan later returned with a further group of 50 males under Ezra (Ezra 2:15; 8:6). The second Adin was one of the chiefs of the people who set their seal to the covenant of national renewal under Nehemiah (Nehemiah 10:16).

The name appears to denote a significant clan in post-exilic Judah, with members documented both in the initial return under Zerubbabel and in subsequent waves of immigration. Their participation in the covenant renewal ceremony under Nehemiah indicates their continued prominence in the reconstituted community of Jerusalem.
