Agee

Agee (meaning a valley or deepness) was the father of Shammah the Hararite, one of David's three chief mighty men. Shammah is celebrated in 2 Samuel 23:11–12 for his single-handed defense of a field of lentils against a Philistine raiding party after the men of Israel fled — an act of individual valor that the text attributes explicitly to the Lord's deliverance. Agee himself is named only in connection with his son, functioning in the genealogical formula that identifies warriors by patronymic.

The father's name Agee appears once in Scripture, in 2 Samuel 23:11, as part of the roster of David's mighty men. Nothing further is recorded about Agee beyond his role as Shammah's father. His Hararite designation indicates an origin in the hill country, possibly the region of the southern highlands of Judah.
