Aholah

Aholah, meaning she has her own tent, is the allegorical name given by the prophet Ezekiel to the northern kingdom of Israel (Samaria) in the extended parable of Ezekiel 23. In the allegory, Aholah and her sister Aholibah represent the two kingdoms as unfaithful wives of the Lord, having committed spiritual adultery through political and religious alliances with Egypt and Assyria. The name implies that Samaria erected its own unauthorized place of worship rather than worshipping at the divinely appointed sanctuary.

The parable draws on the history of the northern kingdom's persistent idolatry from Jeroboam's reign onward, culminating in the Assyrian exile. Though Aholah is a symbolic figure, Ezekiel's imagery allowed him to convey the gravity of covenant unfaithfulness in terms his audience would find inescapable.
