Akkub

Akkub (a variant of Jacob, meaning foot-print or supplanting) is the name of several distinct individuals in the Old Testament. The most prominent is the head of a family of Levitical gatekeepers at the temple whose descendants returned from Babylonian exile with Zerubbabel (1 Chr. 9:17; Ezra 2:42; Neh. 7:45). A second Akkub was among the descendants of David's royal line in the post-exilic period (1 Chr. 3:24). A third was a leader of the Nethinim whose descendants also returned from Babylon (Ezra 2:45). The name's repeated occurrence among gatekeeping and temple-servant families reflects its use across multiple generations of those who maintained the sanctuary's service.
