Alamoth

Alamoth (meaning virgins or maidens) is a Hebrew musical term occurring in the superscription of Psalm 46 and in 1 Chronicles 15:20, where it designates the type of voice or pitch for which a group of Levitical musicians performed. It is generally understood to indicate the soprano register — either that instruments were played at a high pitch or that the performance involved female or boy voices. The term stands in contrast to Sheminith (the eighth), which likely denotes a lower octave.
