Alemeth

Person Name

Name meaning: "hiding; youth; worlds; upon the dead"

Alemeth (meaning hiding or covering) is the name of two individuals and one town in the Old Testament. As a personal name it belongs to (1) one of the nine sons of Becher, son of Benjamin (1 Chr. 7:8), and (2) a son of Jehoadah (or Jarah) in the genealogy of Saul's Benjaminite line (1 Chr. 8:36; 9:42). The same name designates a Levitical city in Benjamin, also called Almon (Josh. 21:18), assigned to priests of Aaron's line. The overlapping personal and place names suggest a possible ancestral connection between the Benjaminite clan and the priestly city.
