Algum

Algum is a variety of precious wood mentioned in connection with the construction of Solomon's temple (2 Chr. 2:8; 9:10–11), appearing also as almug in 1 Kings 10:11–12. The wood was imported from Lebanon and Ophir and used by Solomon for pillars in the temple and palace, as well as for harps and psalteries for the musicians. Its precise botanical identity remains uncertain; proposed identifications include red sandalwood, juniper, and other aromatic hardwoods. The Chronicler notes that never before had such quantities of this wood been seen in Jerusalem, underscoring its exotic and costly character.
