Allon

Allon (meaning an oak or strong) appears in the Old Testament with uncertain classification. In Joshua 19:33, the Hebrew word may represent either a proper place name (a landmark oak tree on Naphtali's border) or the common noun for oak, as the Revised Version renders it. As a personal name, Allon appears in 1 Chronicles 4:37 as the father of Shiphi, a leader in Simeon during the time of Hezekiah. The convergence of tree name and personal name was common in the ancient world, where natural landmarks frequently generated family and clan designations.
