Almon
Place Name
Name meaning: "hidden"
Almon (meaning hidden) was one of the sacerdotal cities in the territory of Benjamin assigned to the descendants of Aaron (Josh. 21:18). It appears in 1 Chronicles 6:60 as Alemeth, confirming that both names refer to the same city. The site has been tentatively identified with Khirbet Almit, approximately one mile northeast of Anathoth near Jerusalem. As one of the Levitical cities, Almon provided residence and support for the priestly families dispersed across the tribal lands.
