Amana
Place Name
Name meaning: "integrity; truth; a nurse"
Amana (meaning perennial or integrity) appears in two distinct biblical contexts. (1) The Hebrew margin of 2 Kings 5:12 suggests that the Abana River — one of the rivers of Damascus praised by Naaman the Syrian — may alternatively be read as Amana. (2) In Song of Solomon 4:8 the beloved is invited to come from Amana alongside Hermon and other northern peaks, suggesting a mountain in the Anti-Lebanon range near Damascus, possibly the source of the Abana River. The name thus identifies a geographic feature in the Syrian highlands north of Israel.
