Ammi
Concept Name
Name meaning: "same as Ammah"
Ammi (meaning my people) is a prophetic name given by God to Israel in Hosea 2:1, standing in deliberate contrast to Lo-ammi (not my people) pronounced earlier as a sign of divine rejection (Hos. 1:9). The oracle of Hosea 2:1 envisions a future restoration in which God would again claim Israel as his covenant people, reversing the name of rejection. Paul cites this reversal in Romans 9:25–26 to support his argument that God's sovereign mercy extends beyond ethnic Israel to include Gentiles who were previously not my people, giving the name concentrated theological weight regarding covenant, rejection, and restoration.
