Ammon

Ammon is the name given to Ben-ammi, the son of Lot by his younger daughter, born after the destruction of Sodom (Gen. 19:38). He became the eponymous ancestor of the Ammonites, a people who settled east of the Jordan River between the Arnon and Jabbok rivers. The name Ben-ammi means son of my people, and the Ammonites are consistently identified in Scripture as descended from Lot, making them distant kinsmen of Israel. The narrative of their origin in incest is typically read as an etiology explaining the fraught coexistence between Israel and Ammon throughout the biblical period.
