Amoz

Amoz (meaning strong or robust) was the father of the prophet Isaiah, mentioned only in the superscriptions of Isaiah's prophecies (Isa. 1:1; 2:1; etc.) and in the parallel historical account of 2 Kings 19:2 and 20:1. Nothing more is known of Amoz from the biblical text. Jewish tradition in the Talmud suggests he was himself a prophet and a brother of King Amaziah of Judah, which would make Isaiah a member of the royal family — though this identification is not found in Scripture and cannot be verified.
