Anah

Anah (meaning one who answers or afflicted) is the name of two individuals in the Genesis 36 genealogy of Edom. (1) Anah son of Seir the Horite, one of the chiefs of the Horites who inhabited the land before Esau's descendants displaced them (Gen. 36:20, 29; 1 Chr. 1:38). (2) Anah son of Zibeon (also a son of Seir), who is credited with discovering something remarkable — either hot springs or a species of mule, as ancient versions differ — while pasturing his father's donkeys in the wilderness (Gen. 36:24). This Anah's daughter Aholibamah became one of the wives of Esau (Gen. 36:2, 14), making him the father-in-law of the patriarch.
