Anamim

Anamim, whose name is thought to mean a fountain or affliction, is listed in the Table of Nations as a tribal people descended from Mizraim, son of Ham (Gen. 10:13; 1 Chr. 1:11). The name designates one of several Mizraite groups that settled in the region of Egypt and northeastern Africa in the generations following the dispersion at Babel. Beyond the two genealogical notices, Scripture offers no further historical detail about this people.

Ancient sources and modern scholarship have not reached consensus on the precise location of the Anamim, though they are grouped with other Mizraite peoples such as the Ludim, Lehabim, and Naphtuhim. Their appearance in both Genesis and Chronicles reflects the biblical concern to trace all nations back to the sons of Noah, underscoring the common origin of humanity within the framework of covenant history.
