Ardon
Name meaning: "ruling; a judgment of malediction"
Ardon, whose name is thought to mean descendant or ruling, was the third of three sons born to Caleb son of Hezron by his wife Azubah (1 Chr. 2:18). He is mentioned alongside his brothers Jesher and Shobab in the Judahite genealogy preserved in 1 Chronicles 2. Caleb son of Hezron belongs to the broader Judahite lineage and is distinct from the more famous Caleb son of Jephunneh, the spy and conqueror of Hebron.
No narrative material accompanies Ardon's mention in Scripture; his significance lies entirely in his place within the genealogical record of Judah. The genealogies of 1 Chronicles 2–4 preserve detailed clan records of the tribe of Judah that are not found elsewhere in the Old Testament, and Ardon's inclusion reflects the care with which the Chronicler traced the extended family structures of Israel's most prominent tribe from the patriarchal period into the settlement era.
