Argob

Argob (meaning a turf or fat land) was a distinct region within the kingdom of Og in Bashan, located in the territory east of the Jordan. It is described as an island of rocky terrain rising twenty to thirty feet above the surrounding basalt tableland, roughly thirty miles by twenty miles in extent. Sixty fortified cities with walls, gates, and bars lay within it (Deuteronomy 3:4). After the conquest it was assigned to Jair the son of Manasseh, who renamed the area Havoth-jair. The name Argob also belongs to one of the palace guards slain with King Pekahiah (2 Kings 15:25).
