Arioch

Person Name

Name meaning: "long; great; tall"

Arioch (meaning lion-like or venerable) is the name of two biblical figures. (1.) The king of Ellasar, one of the four kings allied with Chedorlaomer who defeated the five kings of the Jordan valley in the campaign during which Lot was captured (Genesis 14:1, 9). Abraham pursued this coalition to rescue Lot. (2.) The captain of Nebuchadnezzar's guard, ordered to execute the Babylonian wise men when they failed to interpret the king's dream. Daniel secured an audience with the king through Arioch, allowing time for divine revelation (Daniel 2:14–25).
