Arnon

Arnon (meaning swift or rejoicing) was the southern boundary of Israelite territory east of the Jordan, separating Israel from Moab. The river rises in the mountains of Gilead and flows westward through a deep ravine for approximately eighty miles before emptying into the Dead Sea nearly opposite En-gedi. Its modern name is Wadi el-Mujeb. The Arnon was the northern boundary of Moab and the southern limit of Amorite territory before Israel's conquest; the towns on its banks were disputed in Israel's conflicts with Moab and Ammon throughout the period of the judges and monarchy.
