Arpad

Arpad (meaning the light of redemption) was an Aramean city-state north of Hamath in Syria, frequently paired with Hamath in the prophetic literature. Arpad was conquered by the Assyrians in the eighth century BC and its fate became a boast in Assyrian taunts against Jerusalem: the Rabshakeh invokes it as proof that no god had delivered any nation from Assyrian power (Isaiah 36:19; 37:13; 2 Kings 18:34; 19:13). Isaiah uses its fall as part of a lament over the march of Assyrian conquest (Isaiah 10:9).
