Arvad
Place
Arvad (meaning wandering) was a small island and city-state on the coast of Phoenicia (modern Ruad Island, off the coast of Syria), northernmost of the Phoenician cities. Its inhabitants, the Arvadites, are listed in the table of nations as descendants of Canaan (Genesis 10:18). Ezekiel mentions Arvad as furnishing skilled oarsmen and soldiers to Tyre (Ezekiel 27:8, 11), reflecting its importance as a maritime trading power in the ancient Mediterranean world.
