Assos

Assos (meaning approaching or coming near) was a seaport on the north shore of the Gulf of Adramyttium in the district of Mysia (Proconsular Asia), about twenty miles south of Alexandria Troas by road but a longer distance by sea around Cape Lectum. On his final journey to Jerusalem Paul walked the overland route from Troas to Assos while his companions sailed ahead; he boarded the ship at Assos (Acts 20:13–14). The city was known in antiquity for its philosophers and as the site where Aristotle spent time.
