Astrologer

Astrologers in the biblical world were court diviners who claimed to interpret celestial signs and predict events from the positions of stars and planets. In Daniel's account they are one of the professional classes summoned repeatedly by Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar—alongside magicians, enchanters, and Chaldeans—to interpret dreams and writing, and repeatedly they fail where Daniel succeeds through divine revelation (Daniel 1:20; 2:2, 10, 27). The law of Moses prohibited divination in all its forms (Deuteronomy 4:19; 18:10–12), and Isaiah mocks the astrologers of Babylon who cannot save the city from divine judgment (Isaiah 47:13–14).
