Atad

Atad (meaning buckthorn or a thorn) is the name of the owner of a threshing floor east of the Jordan where the funeral cortege of Jacob paused for seven days of mourning before the final journey to Canaan (Genesis 50:10–11). The Canaanites, seeing the mourning, named the place Abel-mizraim (mourning of Egypt). The site is also mentioned in Judges 9:14–15 in Jotham's parable of the trees, where the bramble (thorn) is invited to be king.
