Baal-perazim

Baal-perazim (meaning lord of breaches or Baal of bursting forth) was the site of one of David's victories over the Philistines shortly after his consolidation of the kingdom. When the Philistines spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim south of Jerusalem, David inquired of God and received permission to attack; his forces broke through the enemy like a bursting flood of waters, and David named the place accordingly — The LORD has broken through my enemies before me, like a breaking forth of waters (2 Samuel 5:20; 1 Chronicles 14:11).

The name's Baal element does not imply deity worship but reflects the common use of Baal as a place-name element meaning lord or owner in Canaanite topography. Isaiah 28:21 later refers to the LORD rising up as at Baal-perazim as an image of sudden, powerful divine action in judgment — turning the memory of Israel's military victory into a type of God's judgments against his own people.
