Baal-shalisha

Baal-shalisha (meaning lord of Shalisha or the god who presides over three) was a place from which a man brought twenty loaves of barley bread and fresh ears of grain to the prophet Elisha at Gilgal during a time of famine (2 Kings 4:42). Elisha commanded that the food be distributed to a hundred men; his servant protested the inadequacy, but Elisha repeated the command, and the people ate and had food left over — a miracle closely parallel in form to the feeding of the multitudes in the Gospels.

The location of Baal-shalisha is generally identified with the land of Shalisha mentioned in 1 Samuel 9:4, in the hill country of Ephraim. The episode at Baal-shalisha is one of several miracle accounts clustered in 2 Kings 4–5 that establish Elisha's prophetic authority as Elijah's successor, demonstrating divine provision through his ministry.
