Baalath

Baalath (meaning a rejoicing or our proud lord) was a town in the territory of the tribe of Dan, mentioned in Joshua 19:44. It was later fortified by Solomon as part of his defensive building program (1 Kings 9:18; 2 Chronicles 8:6) — the same passage that records the building of Tadmor in the wilderness. Solomon's fortification of Baalath likely reflected its strategic location in the lowland Shephelah region between the Philistine coast and the Judean highlands.

The site has been tentatively identified with various locations in the Shephelah, though no consensus identification has emerged. Its fortification by Solomon alongside Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer reflects the king's systematic strengthening of the land's defensive infrastructure, using his vast labor resources to secure the borders of his domain.
