Baana

Baana (meaning son of affliction) is the name of two or three men in the Old Testament. Two of Solomon's twelve district officers bore this name: the first was responsible for the regions of Taanach, Megiddo, and Beth-shean (1 Kings 4:12), and the second governed Asher and Bealoth (1 Kings 4:16). A third Baana was the father of Zadok, one of those who helped rebuild the walls of Jerusalem under Nehemiah's direction (Nehemiah 3:4).

The two Solomonic officers bear the same name and served in the same administrative system but governed different districts. Their roles were to supply provisions for the royal household for one month each year, rotating the obligation among twelve governors to prevent excessive burden on any single region. The name Baana appears without narrative development beyond these administrative listings.
