Bajith

Bajith (meaning house) is mentioned in Isaiah 15:2 in the oracle against Moab: He is gone up to Bajith, and to Dibon, the high places, to weep. The verse describes the Moabites going to their temples and high places in mourning over the coming destruction. Most modern translations render bajith simply as the house (referring to a temple or sanctuary), and some scholars understand it not as a proper place-name but as the common noun for a house or temple of Moab.

If a proper name, Bajith may designate a specific Moabite cultic site associated with a national temple. Its pairing with Dibon — a well-known Moabite city — suggests a location in the Moabite plateau east of the Dead Sea. The Isaiah oracle describes the comprehensive mourning that would sweep through Moab's cities and sanctuaries in the face of Assyrian invasion.
