Bartholomew

Bartholomew (meaning son of Tolmai) was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus, listed in all three Synoptic Gospels and in Acts (Matthew 10:3; Mark 3:18; Luke 6:14; Acts 1:13). He is consistently paired with Philip in the apostolic lists. Many scholars identify him with Nathanael of Cana, the disciple Philip brought to Jesus in John 1:45–51, since Nathanael appears where Bartholomew would be expected in John's Gospel. Tradition holds that he carried the gospel to Armenia and India; he is venerated as a martyr.
