Bartimaeus

Person

Bartimaeus (meaning son of Timaeus) was a blind beggar sitting by the roadside near Jericho who cried out to Jesus as Son of David as he passed. Despite being rebuked by the crowd, his persistent appeals moved Jesus to call him, ask what he wanted, and restore his sight in response to his faith (Mark 10:46–52; cf. Matthew 20:30). Mark alone names him and his father, suggesting he was known to the early Christian community. His healing is the last miracle Jesus performed before his entry into Jerusalem.
