Basin

Several Hebrew words are rendered basin (or bason) in the English Bible, covering a range of vessels used for washing, for catching blood in sacrifice, and for temple service. The large bronze lavers in the tabernacle and temple were used for priestly washing (Exodus 30:18; 1 Kings 7:38). David prepared gold and silver basins for the temple treasury (1 Chronicles 28:17). At the Last Supper Jesus used a basin (niptēr) to wash the disciples' feet (John 13:5)—an act of servant leadership that reinterpreted the washbasin's ritual associations.
