Basket

Baskets in Scripture represent a variety of woven containers used for carrying food, offerings, and goods. Five distinct Hebrew words are translated basket, differing in size and material. In Joseph's narrative, the chief baker's dream featured three baskets of bread (Genesis 40:16–18). The offering of firstfruits was presented in a basket before the LORD (Deuteronomy 26:2–4). Moses was placed in a basket of bulrushes (Exodus 2:3). In the New Testament, the disciples gathered twelve basketfuls of fragments after the feeding of the five thousand (Matthew 14:20), and Paul escaped Damascus in a basket lowered over the city wall (Acts 9:25; 2 Corinthians 11:33).
