Bath

The bath was the standard Hebrew liquid measure, equal to one-tenth of a homer (Ezekiel 45:11, 14). Estimates of its capacity range from approximately five to nine modern gallons (roughly 20–40 liters). Solomon's bronze sea in the temple held two thousand baths (1 Kings 7:26), and each of the ten moveable lavers held forty baths (1 Kings 7:38). The bath's equivalent for dry measure was the ephah. The term is also used figuratively in Ezekiel 45:10–14 in the context of just commercial weights and measures, as part of a vision of restored equity in the ideal commonwealth.
