Bath-sheba

Bath-sheba (meaning daughter of the oath or daughter of seven, also called Bath-shua in 1 Chronicles 3:5) was the daughter of Eliam and wife of Uriah the Hittite, whom David saw bathing and took into his household in an act of adultery, subsequently arranging Uriah's death in battle. The prophet Nathan confronted David with a parable that led to his repentance (Psalm 51). Their first child died, but their second son was Solomon.

After David's death, Bath-sheba played a decisive role in securing Solomon's succession over Adonijah, acting as the queen mother whose intercession had direct access to the throne. She is listed in Jesus's genealogy in Matthew 1:6 as the wife of Uriah.
