Battle-axe

Concept

The battle-axe (or war-club, Hebrew mappets) is mentioned in Jeremiah 51:20 in a metaphorical address to Cyrus (or Babylon) as God's war club and weapon of battle—the instrument by which the LORD smashes nations and kingdoms. The weapon in its literal form was a heavy mallet or bronze-headed club used in close combat. In the figurative sense of Jeremiah, divine judgment is the ultimate battle-axe that breaks the pride of empire.
