Battle-bow

Concept

The battle-bow was the war-bow used in combat, distinguished from the hunting bow. Zechariah 9:10 announces the messianic king's abolition of the battle-bow, chariot, and war-horse as part of his proclamation of peace to the nations. Zechariah 10:4 uses the battle-bow as a metaphor for the rulers and warriors who will come from Judah in the day of restoration. The breaking of the battle-bow appears repeatedly in prophetic literature as a sign of disarmament under divine sovereignty (Hosea 1:5; Psalm 46:9).
