Bay

Bay in the Authorized Version denotes the northern estuary of the Dead Sea at the mouth of the Jordan River (Joshua 15:5; 18:19), used as a boundary marker for the tribes of Judah and Benjamin. The same Hebrew word (lashon, tongue) is used in Isaiah 11:15 for the tongue-shaped gulf of the Red Sea (the Gulf of Suez), which God promises to dry up in the eschatological return of the exiles. Zechariah 6:3, 7 uses the word differently, describing the dappled (or bay-coloured) horses of the prophetic visions.
